support children's developing social and
emotional capabilities.

Our teachers will:
  • Develop warm, positive relationships with
    children
  • Implement games and activities that
    practice cooperation and turn taking
  • Encourage children to work on activities
    that are challenging and require time to
    perfect
  • Notice and praise behaviors that show
    sensitivity for others
  • Use guidance techniques to diminish
    disruptive behaviors as they occur
  • Resist the temptation to do for children
    those things they are capable of doing for
    themselves
  • Arrange the classroom and equipment to
    allow children to be as independent as
    possible
  • Show patience as children practice and
    perfect social skills slowly over time
  • Model the positive social and emotional
    skills they desire children to exhibit

Childcare providers share an important
responsibility to help nurture a child's identity
and feelings of accomplishment and value.

The early childhood years are a critical time in
the formation of self esteem. During these first
years children form impressions of their
capabilities and self worth based on their
successes and the feedback they receive.

Daily interactions, teaching methods and
choices in an early childhood education
program make an important impact on
children's development of self esteem.
